BCforward is currently seeking highly motivated HR Generalist/HR Leave Counselor for an opportunity in Florham Park, NJ 07932.


Job Title: HR Generalist/HR Leave Counselor

Location: Florham Park, NJ 07932

Expected Duration: 3 Months

Work Schedule: Regular work hours - 40 hours within 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM, Mon - Fri.

Principal Responsibilities of the Leave Counselor:

  • Provide exemplary customer service to employees, supervisors, HR and other stakeholders.
  • Intake and documentation of all leaves (telephonic or system reported) in the Case Management System.
  • Ensure system triggers, notifications, communications and diaries are documented.
  • Determine eligibility and appropriate benefits.
  • Utilize clinical duration management tool and refer for clinical review as appropriate.
  • Timely and accurate notification to the Data Management or Payroll when manual intervention is required (not passed on nightly interface file).
  • Facilitate return to work with employee, site medical contact, supervisor and HR.
  • Review updated communications as needed.
  • Coordinate Disability Retirements for union populations.
  • Summarize cases for Appeals.
  • Manage special projects as assigned.


  • Bachelors degree plus 3 years experience in leave management and/or disability management; or High School Diploma plus 6 years experience in leave management and/or disability management.
  • Candidates with benefits administration experience are preferred.
  • The following certifications would be an asset:
  • CDMS (Certified Disability Management Specialist).
  • CCM (Certified Case Manager).
  • CPDM (Certified Professional Disability Management).
  • A broad understanding of various leave types such as Military, State and Federal FMLA, FLA, CFRA, ADA, short- & long-term disability and their effect on compensation and benefits is also preferred.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and interact with employees at all levels within the organization, including legal and medical professionals.
  • Ability to manage individual projects.
  • Self-motivated with excellent listening skills and attention to detail; sensitivity to hardship and unfortunate circumstances.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to set priorities and exercise sound judgement.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new procedures and process quickly and work independently to solve problems.

General Comments:

  • This team supports US and Canada.
  • Must be good with PC - Excel for data and reporting and PowerPoint.
  • The HM will consider someone who worked as leave counselor or HR generalist.
