Job Description:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems (CIS/MIS), Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training
  • 5+ years of Java experience
  • 5+ years of experience with AngularJS/Angular
  • Experience with Azure Cloud
  • Exposure to cloud-based deployments, CI/CD deployment pipeline
  • Experience working with Selenium

    Demonstrated experience in the following:

  • Strong coding skills and concepts in Java
  • Java EE Technologies, Spring Framework, Micro services Architecture, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), JDBC, JNDI, JTA/JTS, JMS
  • Rich Internet Applications (RIA) - React/AngularJS, JavaScript, jQuery, NodeJS, RESTful Services, JSON, AJAX, Git, Gulp, Webpack, Linux, Responsive Design, CSS/HTML5
  • Application Monitoring with Dynatrace and LogInsight
  • Responsive design and grid frameworks (i.e. Bootstrap), including cross browser compatibility.
  • Web Servers & Application Servers IBM WebSphere/Tomcat/tcServer
  • Integration & Collaboration Tools Subversion, GIT
  • Web Services WSDL, SOAP, JAX-WS, XML RPC, JAXB, RESTWS
  • Java Database Frameworks - Hibernate, Java Persistence API (JPA)
  • Relational databases and SQL like Oracle RDBMS or SQL Server. NoSQL databases like MongoDB, CouchDB or CosmosDB
  • Messaging Layer - RabbitMQ, IBM MQ
  • 5 years of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience
  • Experience with developer testing practices (i.e. JUnit, etc.) and understands the differences between unit, functional and system tests
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies
  • Experience with and is willing to initiate sharing knowledge with others
  • Ability to quickly learn and practically apply new concepts or principles which can be confirmed by experience
  • Experience supporting a 24/7 vital production application

Specific Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will join a team responsible for developing a next generation Crew Technology product suite.
  • This product suite will be used by American Airlines Flight Attendants and Pilot workgroups.
  • Develop and maintain service applications in Java using JEE to create object models and design patterns that consume REST API messages to process operational data by applying airline business domain logic and output results as JSON messages to client apps
  • Develop and maintain REST API interfaces within an enterprise Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) applying industry accepted best OOAD practices within a cloud-based network (e.g. Azure)
  • Program Validation algorithms which verify crew work schedules are compliant to US Governmental and AA contractual rules that govern crew members Hours of Services rules
  • Incorporate a high-performance data interface to MongoDB used as the data store for high-performance service applications
  • Incorporate an auxiliary data interface event streams used to alert applications of specific events within the Crew Management System, requires a working knowledge of systems that use Kafka as an underlying technology for publishing date on a Topic for consumers
  • Execute validation tests of new software using Junit and Mockito unit testing methodologies
  • Conduct development activities according to team pairing methods of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) within an Agile development framework
  • Build and deployment of applications on cloud-based application servers using Spring Boot framework, Maven build toolset and Jenkins or GitActions deployment toolset
  • Participate in promotion of software releases across all environments as part of the enterprise change management process
  • Troubleshooting of, and providing validated corrections for, problems reported in testing or by customer feedback
  • Support production issues and respond to urgent calls for IT support during off-hours and holidays
  • Maintain, optimize and enhance existing services and applications, including performance tuning
  • Validate performance of working software by executing test routines and loading conditions to mimic expected real-time usage in production environment

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and modifies complex, deadline-intensive and/or mission-critical applications using advanced programming tools
  • Documents all code using standard forms and procedures and review others work as appropriate
  • Assists others in the use of programming tools and recommend tools to best meet application needs
  • Recommends process, methodology and tool changes in conjunction with Architects and QA to best meet the needs of the department and client
  • Works with Quality assurance to participate in unit, system and user acceptance testing based on an understanding of the development lifecycle
  • Participates in architectural recommendations/decisions and work with other infrastructure groups as applicable to determine and implement complex system hardware requirements that may involve multiple platforms, databases, peripherals or other technology
  • Provides the highest level of technical production support for applications, assists others with complex problem resolution and responds with solutions to both functional and technical issues in a timely manner
  • Works with Business System Analysts, Project Managers or other management to recommend process or system enhancements
  • Works with DBAs, Architects and other team members to ensure logical and physical data models and relationship diagrams are completed and executed according to methodology and user requirements
  • Assist project management in estimates as requested.
