Job Summary:
The Field Assistant will support various activities related to research seed production. This role involves assisting in field operations throughout the growing season, including planting, roguing, weeding, data collection, and harvest support. The position may require occasional operation of field equipment and working in diverse weather conditions, including hot, cold, and windy environments. Tasks will be performed both indoors and outdoors.The ideal candidate must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and work under general supervision for routine tasks, with detailed guidance provided for new assignments.Key Responsibilities:
Assist with research seed production activities, including planting, detasseling, and field checks.
Lead and supervise detasseling crews as needed.
Conduct roguing, weeding, and data collection throughout the field season.
Support harvest operations, including husking, dryers, and conditioning processes.
Work closely with the Agronomy Supervisor and Area Specialists to ensure smooth day-to-day field activities.
Operate field equipment as necessary, with proper training and adherence to safety protocols.
Use a company vehicle for work-related tasks; candidates must have an excellent driving record.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Ability to work in various weather conditions, including hot, cold, and windy environments.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.
Ability to follow both written and oral instructions.
Experience with field research, agricultural operations, or seed production is preferred but not required.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Work Schedule:
Standard shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
Field season shift: 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Schedule may fluctuate based on operational needs, particularly during peak harvest periods.
