BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Technical Writer for a opportunity in Spring, TX (Hybrid)!

Position Title: Technical Writer

Location: Spring, TX (Hybrid)

Anticipated Start Date: 10/15/2024

Please note this is the target date and is subject to change. BCforward will send official notice ahead of a confirmed start date.

Expected Duration: 24+ months contract + Renewable

Job Type: [FULL TIME (>%3D40 HRS WEEKLY) [CONTRACT], [Hybrid, 1-2 days a week]

Pay Range: $43-$45/hr only on W2

Please note that actual compensation may vary within this range due to factors such as location, experience, and job responsibilities, and does not encompass additional non-standard compensation (e.g., benefits, paid time off, per diem, etc.).

Job Description:
Tasks/ responsibilities:

  • Primarily tactical execution of developer documentation strategy. Design / build / test / measure internal developer documentation features to support various programs (developer portals, team handbooks, end-user documentation for developer tools)
  • This technical writing position is not a typical one - involves a wide range of skills that don't always involve writing. Will be contributing to an "ecosystem" of documentation, resources and touchpoints for developers.
  • Develop strong working relationships across various software organization (business units) using our tools and services.
  • Collaborate with product managers, program managers, architects, developers, and support engineers to understand product direction and customer needs
  • Research, test, and document feature sets for a technical audience
  • Understand, exercise, and document APIs, libraries, and applications
  • Investigate, implement, and document ways to improve tool sets and processes
  • Actively participate in all agile planning processes
  • Solicit developer / end-user feedback in various forums such as focus groups or surveys; may implement/monitor feedback mechanisms

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of APIs and API documentation
  • Knowledge of CI/CD a plus
  • Web design and development basics (CSS, HTML, navigation), Gutenberg or other block editor, React and docs-as-code knowledge (MkDocs, Docusaurus, etc.) a plus
  • Some coding experience definitely a plus
  • GitHub experience
  • Confluence wiki experience
  • Stack Overflow experience a plus
  • Office 365 (SharePoint, MS Teams, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Video editing skills a plus
  • knowledge of docs measurement tools and metrics (such as Google Analytics) is ideal

Attitude/ Mindset:

  • Fast learner!
  • Customer or End-user focus (developer experience)
  • Comfortable with stakeholder communication at different levels
  • Comfortable presenting to engineers, product managers or management
