Job Description

We are seeking a Database Engineer Contractor to support a Deloitte project team by designing, developing, and optimizing database and data operations systems for analytics, ML, and reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in CI/CD for data and analytics infrastructure, ETL/ELT engineering, and hybrid cloud operations and a proven ability to deliver resilient, secure, and high-performance data platforms with zero-downtime deployment practices.

Responsibilities:

• Design and construct large relational databases to meet project requirements.
• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT processes to integrate systems with existing data warehouse and lakehouse structures.
• Optimize database performance and ensure efficient, reliable data retrieval and availability.
• Implement and enforce database and platform security controls to protect integrity and confidentiality.
• Perform regular data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Lead day-to-day data operations to ensure delivery of quality results and SLA adherence.
• Provision, scale, and maintain data, analytics, and ML infrastructure for batch and real-time systems in hybrid cloud.
• Shepherd zero-downtime deployments through CI/CD and continuous delivery practices.
• Build observability, monitoring, alerting, and self-healing tools in partnership with platform teams.
• Debug complex distributed systems and lead production incidents, including post-incident reviews.
• Develop self-service tooling and automation to improve engineering efficiency and service quality.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Primary skill: Infrastructure Engineer - CI/CD, advanced level.
• 6-9 years of experience in data operations, database engineering, or related roles.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments such as GitLab, Spinnaker, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in one or more languages for automation and API integration: Python, Go, Rust, Java, or Scala.
• Experience implementing security controls, governance, compliance validation, and cost optimization.
• Solid understanding of IaC techniques such as Terraform and related orchestration tooling.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with incident management experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with a track record of accountable execution.

Preferred Skills:

• Observability with Splunk, Grafana, and Datadog.
• Analytics and applied ML stack: Apache Spark, Trino/Pinot, Apache Iceberg, Apache Atlas, Flink, Airflow/Luigi, Tableau, Snowflake, Databricks, MLflow, data catalogs, Jupyter Notebooks, vector databases, and Cassandra.
• Experience in agile or evolving product environments and scaling operations in dynamic settings.
