This role is designed for someone who has already run point on truck transportation decisions, not someone learning the basics. What You'll Do
- Manage end-to-end truck transportation from origin to destination
- Select carriers based on service, capacity, and real-time market conditions
- Develop and maintain market-based freight pricing
- Load and maintain accurate rates in transportation and rating systems
- Act as a subject matter expert on truckload freight markets
- Communicate freight market trends and cost drivers to internal stakeholders
- Manage customer- and plant-specific shipping requirements across product lines
- Lead carrier management activities including rate negotiation, capacity planning, relationship management, shipment execution, and spend oversight
- Negotiate rates and contract terms directly with carriers and brokers
- Maximize backhaul and load pairing opportunities across product lines
- Independently analyze transportation operations to identify cost and process improvements
- Monitor carrier KPIs and take corrective action when performance declines
- Maintain accurate data in TMS systems including Master Mind, contracts, rates, volume estimates, and customer information
- Resolve freight invoice discrepancies and payment issues
- 5+ years of transportation or logistics experience, with a strong focus on truckload freight. Must have brokerage experience. Operationally minded.
- Direct experience negotiating carrier rates and contract terms
- Demonstrated ownership of carrier relationships and capacity management
- Experience supporting high-volume or time-sensitive shipping environments, preferably in agriculture, energy, manufacturing, or commodities
- Strong understanding of truckload freight markets, pricing drivers, and seasonal volatility
- Hands-on experience working in a Transportation Management System (TMS); Master Mind experience is a strong plus
- Ability to independently analyze data, identify trends, and make cost-driven recommendations
- Comfort working onsite and being available for overtime during peak or harvest periods
