Laboratory Technician

BCForward is currently looking for highly motivated Laboratory Technician at Johnston, IA 50131.

Position Title: Laboratory Technician
Location: Johnston, IA 50131
Expected Duration: 6 months.
Estimated Start Date: 5/6/2024.
Pay Rate: $ 21.50/hr.
Shift: M-F daytime working hours

Job Description:

• We are looking for a Lab Technician for a research lab in our company, located in Johnston, Iowa.
• With guidance from supervision, this person will assist technical personnel in general laboratory operations and routine laboratory or information handling tasks in support of scientific research.
• Perform tasks according to accepted methods and training prescribed by the team.

Duties will include:

• Culture and process microbial strains.
• Extract total protein from bacteria and plant samples.
• Provide support in sample prep for whole genome sequencing.
• Maintain inventory of basic lab supplies and equipment.
• Maintain detailed biological sample inventory in the lab.
• Migrate inventory records into databases.
• In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Microbiology or other related science.
• Previous laboratory experience is preferred.
• Proficient knowledge of and experience in aseptic techniques.
• Very good organization skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Other experience (Preferred but not required)

• Experience to work with BSL-2 microorganisms.
• Experience with molecular biology techniques.
• Experience in genomic DNA extraction from biological samples.
