BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated House Manager for an opportunity in Cleveland, OH 44106!

Job Type: [FULL TIME (<30 HRS WEEKLY)], [TEMP TO HIRE], [ON-SITE]

Pay Range: [$25/Hr.

Position Objective:

The House Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of the President's House. This role ensures the residence is well-maintained, organized, and prepared for events and guests. The House Manager will coordinate with various university departments and external vendors to provide a high standard of service and hospitality. The House Manager is integral to ensuring the smooth coordination of various activities and engagements related to this important role to the university. The House Manager will act as a liaison and representative of the university, working closely with the Office of the President, University Relations and Development, and various stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of the role.

Essential Functions:


  • Household Management: Oversee the daily operations of the President's House, including cleaning, maintenance, and repairs. Manage household staff, including housekeepers, chefs, and gardeners. Provide training, assign tasks, and ensure high performance standards. Maintain an inventory of household supplies and equipment. Order and restock items as needed. Manage the household and event budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective operations. Prepare financial reports as required. Coordinate with security personnel to ensure the safety and security of the President's House and its occupants. (25%)


  • Administrative Duties: Maintain and manage the president's partner's calendar, scheduling appointments meetings and events in a way that optimizes the partner's time and aligns with the partner's and the university's priorities. Work with the President's Office to make travel arrangements and handle logistics for domestic and international trips, ensuring comfort and security. Serve as primary point of contact between internal and external parties handling correspondence, emails, and phone calls. Oversee the organization and efficiency of the home office, including filing, record keeping and maintaining a neat and professional workspace. (25%)


  • Event Coordination: Plan and coordinate events hosted at the President's House, including dinners, receptions, and meetings. Ensure all events run smoothly and provide exceptional hospitality to guests, ensuring their needs are met and they have a pleasant experience. Provide cleaning services for special events held at the residence. This includes but is not limited to prepare for events according to events calendar provided; stock the guest restroom before each event; pay special attention to first floor cleaning before each event; put away the president's personal kitchen equipment to prepare for caterers' arrival. After an event, the house needs to be returned to clean working order with special attention paid to the kitchen. (25%)


  • Cleaning Services: Perform routine and special cleaning of the president's residence. Follow the provided cleaning schedule. Bring in the mail and receive deliveries. Receive and direct vendors and deliveries. Use discretion with other visitors. Spot clean walls, doors, partitions, switch plates, etc. Sweep, dust mop, and wet mop floors. Vacuum and spot clean carpeting. Dust all flat and vertical surfaces and windowsills daily. Dust all surfaces including desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, windowsills, bookshelves, bookcases, walls, blinds, vent and radiator grills, ceilings and light fixtures. In restrooms, clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, clean mirrors, mop bathroom floors and clean showers, complete cleaning, twice weekly. Clean stovetops, countertops and both sinks in the kitchen. Damp mop kitchen floor. Strip and wash the sheets from the master and guest bedrooms. Place sheets back on the bed. Wash towels from all restrooms and kitchen. Wipe out microwave and oven. Dust tables and sweep the floor on the outside porch off the living room (summer months only). Wipe off all door handles and marks on woodwork. Wipe down the fronts of kitchen cabinets and appliances. Clean the inside of refrigerator. Turn off lights in unoccupied rooms and secure all windows. Keep assigned custodial closets clean and neat. Be responsible for keys and safety of the home. Keep track of all equipment assigned to the building. Ensure that equipment is maintained in proper condition, and promptly turn equipment in for repair when needed. (25%)

  • Department: Frequent contact with the president, president's partner, and staff in the Office of the President to furnish, obtain or exchange data or information and address concerns/problems.
  • University: Frequent contact with provost, deans, vice presidents, associate vice presidents, assistant vice presidents, chief development officers, development officers, alumni relations team, and staff as required to perform essential functions, coordinate actions, and achieve immediate operating results.
  • External: Regular contact with the Board of Trustees, donors, community leaders and personalities, and friends as required to perform essential functions.
  • Students: Little or no contact with students.

  • Supervisory Responsibility:

    No direct supervisory responsibility.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience: 6 or more years of work experience are required, including experience in event planning/management, hospitality management, customer service, or related field.
    • Experience in a non-profit or university setting preferred.
    • Education: High school education required; Prefer Bachelor's degree.

    Required Skills:


  • Demonstrated ability to manage a busy schedule, making adjustments as needed in a timely manner.
  • Commitment and attention to quality, detail and appropriate protocol are essential.
  • Good political judgment and sensitivity, the ability to view events in a larger context, and the wisdom to know when it is appropriate to elevate problems - with recommended solutions - to senior leadership are vital.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain collaborative working relationships through flexibility, tact, approachability, and responsiveness.
  • Demonstrated institutional knowledge of Case Western Reserve University.
  • Proven ability to maintain good client relations and strong teamwork among various groups with an upbeat attitude and sense of humor are important for this role.
  • Ability to discreetly handle sensitive information is essential.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, as is ability to interact with diverse internal and external constituencies. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face and through telephone calls.
  • Basic knowledge of home maintenance. Must be able to read and follow instructions. Must be familiar with the proper use of cleaning tools, supplies and safety equipment.
  • Must be able to work both independently, alone and as part of a team
  • Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Office) and the ability to learn new programs.
  • Ability to meet consistent attendance. Ability to work outside of regular office hours on a regular basis, including evenings and weekends.

  • Working Conditions:

    The working environment may have occasional exposure to potential hazards such as chemicals, commercial products, fumes, and dust. Overtime and emergency hours may be required. The university is a non-smoking environment. The employee will have physical exertion and should be able to lift up to 50 lbs. The employee will regularly bend, stoop, kneel, and go up and down stairs. Appropriate gloves and protective eyewear will be provided. ]
