Automation Team Assistant
BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Automation Team Assistant for an opportunity in Johnston, IA 50131
Job Title: Automation Team Assistant
Location: Johnston, IA 50131
Anticipated Start Date: ASAP
Expected Duration: 12+ months of contract
Potential to Extend: Yes
Pay Rate: $21.50/ per hour
Job Type: [FULL TIME (>%3D40 HRS WEEKLY, [CONTRACT], [ONSITE]
Working Hours:
- 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with rotational weekend work required (approximately every 6th weekend, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, once fully trained)
Bonus Structure:
- $500 paid after 6 months
- $1,000 paid after 12 months (repeats every year worker stays onsite)
Description:
We are seeking a responsible and highly motivated individual to join the Controlled Environments Team at our Johnston, Iowa research facility. As part of our team, you will contribute to the future of agriculture by helping solve the world's food challenges through innovation and technology. Responsibilities - What You Will Do:
- Work safely and follow written procedures and protocols, including Isolation of Energy, Lock-Out-Tag-Out, Confined Spaces, and Forklift training.
- Perform routine tasks such as:
- Operate an industrial tipper/grinder
- Drive company truck and trailer (on property)
- Use forklift and pallet jack to organize and stock supplies
- Load and operate automated washers, such as pot & flat washers
- Perform basic plant care tasks in the automated headhouse and greenhouses
- Assist with transplanting plants into the automated headhouse
- Assist with various plant samplings in the automated headhouse and greenhouses
- Troubleshoot and document issues within automated systems
- Work once every 6th weekend, with comp days after adequate training
Requirements - Who You Are:
- Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive company vehicles on company property, including a forklift, pallet jack, and truck/trailer.
- Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and a positive attitude
- Ability to work independently
- Attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols
- Basic computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn internal research software
- A positive attitude towards robots is a bonus
- Ability to sit/stand for extended periods, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks in a warm, humid greenhouse with pollen year-round
