Global Clinical Materials Manager
Position Title: Global Clinical Materials Manager (Hybrid Work)
Mode of Work: Majority of time in the office (49% Homeoffice allowed)Locations: South San Francisco, CA 94080
Anticipated Start Date: 06/16
Expected Duration: 12 Months
Job Type: Contract with possible extension
Pay Rate $71.00/hr. on W2
Need: Minimum 3 years' experience in pharma/biopharma or supply chain, with SAP ERP expertise; MyBuy or similar procurement tools preferred.
Job Description:
1.1 Role Summary
As part of PTDS Global Clinical Supply Chain Management, the Production Enablement function ensures that packaging operations can deliver materials for Roche's clinical trials seamlessly, on time, and with optimized cost and quality.
Within Production Enablement, the Global Clinical Materials Manager (GCMM) is responsible for coordinating and executing all procurement activities related to drug products and packaging materials for global clinical studies. This includes managing the release of materials to ensure timely production of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) in compliance with international standards and regulatory requirements. The GCMM also oversees clinical demand planning for packaging materials.
1.2 Key Responsibilities
The GCMM serves as the single point of contact to ensure the availability of drug products and packaging materials for clinical manufacturing. Key responsibilities include:
Material and Master Data Management
- Maintain accurate master data for drug products and packaging materials.
- Compile product-specific data and documentation.
- Define, request, and continuously update master data in SAP systems.
- Plan packaging materials using SAP systems.
- Manage purchase orders for:
- Roche development, partner, and commercial drug products.
- External commercial drug products and packaging materials.
- Roche development, partner, and commercial drug products.
- Utilize appropriate procurement systems (e.g., MyBuy).
- Manage relationships with various drug product and packaging material suppliers.
- Create supplier performance transparency through KPIs.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support warehouse operations and perform virtual goods receipts.
- Ensure batch availability for manufacturing.
- Compile GMP- and customs-compliant goods receipt dossiers.
- Request and maintain GMP/non-GMP batch data in SAP.
- Ensure timely QA release or AFM (Authorization for Further Manufacturing).
- Manage shelf-life extensions at both batch and material levels.
- Maintain associated documentation.
- Confirm received quantities to enable accurate cost allocation in financial systems.
- Lead issue management related to procurement and goods receipt.
- Handle GMP deviation and change management.
- Support inspections and audits.
- Monitor and act on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Lead and participate in global/local projects to optimize clinical supply processes.
- Collaborate with Business Process Managers for global/local process improvements.
- Contribute to system enhancements and SOP/training document updates.
- Work independently on SAP CLARA P96 system improvements.
2. Job Requirements and Qualifications
2.1 Competencies
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical supply chain and clinical packaging processes.

- Keen attention to detail and solid understanding of technical systems and processes.
- Proficient in cGMP standards and supply chain/business processes.
- Capable of managing projects independently from initiation to completion.
- Proactive, self-motivated, adaptable, and organized.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English (basic German is a plus).
- Customer-focused with strong relationship-building abilities.
- Quick learner with the capacity to acquire broad skillsets.
- Minimum of 3 years in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry and/or supply chain management.
- Experience with SAP ERP systems is required.
- Familiarity with MyBuy or similar procurement systems is preferred.
- Associate degree or University degree in pharmaceutical sciences, biopharmaceuticals, or Supply Chain Management; Master's degree preferred.
- APICS and/or SCOR certification, or equivalent experience.
- PMP, Operational Excellence, Six Sigma, or Lean training is a plus.
