Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Senior Auto Claims Specialist is responsible for handling complex auto and commercial transportation claims with a focus on bodily injury, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (BI/UM/UIM), and litigation management. This role requires demonstrated experience in liability assessment, coverage analysis, and injury claim evaluation, including catastrophic claims such as fatalities, fractures, and traumatic brain injuries. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, exhibit strong negotiation and communication skills, and possess extensive multi-state licensing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve complex personal and commercial auto casualty claims, including BI/UM/UIM.
  • Handle litigation matters related to BI/UM/UIM claims, working with defense counsel and stakeholders to manage legal strategy.
  • Analyze coverage and liability for auto claims, including complex liability and no-fault (Personal Injury Protection) scenarios.
  • Manage claims up to a $1 million threshold, reporting large losses to excess carriers when required.
  • Oversee Auto Physical Damage claims as needed; coordinate with vendors and independent adjusters for claim investigations.
  • Identify and pursue subrogation and risk transfer opportunities.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with insureds, claimants, clients, attorneys, brokers, and agents.
  • Prepare and present case details to both internal teams and external partners or clients.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory deadlines and documentation requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate claim file documentation, coding, and processing.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Licensing:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must have an active NY Property & Casualty (P&C) license.
  • Must be licensed in the contiguous 48 states (multi-state licensing strongly preferred).
  • Professional certifications (e.g., AIC, CPCU) a plus.
Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of claims management experience required.
  • Proven experience in handling auto casualty claims with bodily injury focus, including fatalities and other demonstrable injuries.
  • Litigation handling experience specific to BI/UM/UIM claims (at least 3 candidates will require this).
  • Experience with TPA (Third-Party Administrator) operations is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Auto Physical Damage claims preferred.
  • Proven experience managing claims with high dollar exposure (up to $1 million).

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Expert knowledge of personal and commercial auto insurance policies and coverages.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, Medicare compliance, and injury evaluation.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting claim cases.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment in a high-volume, deadline-driven setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and claims management systems.
