Job title: Computer Laboratory Technician

Location: 2200 Mission College Boulevard, Santa Clara, CA 95054

Duration: 9+ Months

Shipping

• Create shipping memos
• Pack and prepare equipment for shipment
• Transport shipments to/from the mailroom/shipping department
• Track and manage received packing slips

Inventory

• Add new equipment to inventory systems
• Perform regular inventory audits and reconciliation
• Ensure assets are accurately tracked with their locations
• Manage check-in/out process for borrowers
• Dispose of obsolete equipment following the scrapping/waterfall processes

Equipment

• Set up PCs, rack mount servers, switches, and peripherals
• Install and configure components in servers/PCs
• Configure BIOS settings
• Configure network switches
• Ensure proper cabling and power management
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting

Software

• Install operating systems on lab equipment
• Configure virtual machines and networking
• Install necessary tools and software on systems

Record Keeping

• Update documentation for network and switch configurations
• Record systems in use and their locations
• Accurately label systems and networks

Lab Space Management

• Keep the lab organized, including tools, active setups, systems in storage, and excess peripherals/cables
• Plan and optimize lab layout for efficiency
• Ensure proper ventilation and cooling for equipment
• Coordinate with corporate services for lab upgrades and repairs
• Move equipment between labs as needed

IT

• Collaborate with IT on lab network infrastructure issues, upgrades, and improvements
• Follow information security rules for network configuration
• Ensure systems are patched and IT-required tools are installed

Support

• Provide technical support for lab equipment and network issues
• Notify lab users of downtime and issues

Safety and Compliance

• Ensure lab safety protocols are followed
• Conduct regular safety inspections
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
