Job Description:
Position Title: Prior Authorization Support Specialist
Position Purpose:
The Prior Authorization Support Specialist plays a key role in facilitating prior authorization requests, ensuring they are processed accurately and within contractual timelines. This position supports the utilization management team by documenting authorization requests and securing timely and accurate documentation related to members' healthcare eligibility and access.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
In this role, the Prior Authorization Support Specialist will:
- Identify and categorize various document types based on predefined group processes.
- Sort and process authorization-related documents with accuracy and efficiency.
- Enter key data from documents into the utilization management system, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail while processing authorization requests.
- Support the utilization management team by ensuring timely and organized documentation.
To be successful in this role, the individual and their team are expected to meet the following performance standards:
- Actively work within the application for a minimum of 6.5 hours during an 8-hour workday.
- Maintain a goal of sorting an average of 126 faxes per hour or keying 62 faxes per hour.
- Ensure accuracy and efficiency in document processing and data entry.
The first day will follow a structured onboarding process:
- 8:00 AM CT - IT onboarding call to verify system access and ensure all necessary programs are functioning.
- Post-IT Call - Orientation session and onboarding training videos.
- 10:30 AM CT - Teams meeting for hands-on training focused on document sorting, continuing for the remainder of the day.
- Data Entry Experience - Strong attention to detail and accuracy in entering information.
- Typing Speed - Ability to type 50+ words per minute (WPM) with accuracy.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Entry-level role; prior experience is not required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes is preferred.
- Process and support authorization requests in compliance with the insurance prior authorization list.
- Perform data entry to maintain and update authorization records within the utilization management system.
- Assist the utilization management team in tracking and documenting authorizations and referrals per established policies and guidelines.
- Contribute to the authorization review process by documenting essential medical information, including patient history, diagnosis, and prognosis, for clinical review and determination.
- Stay informed on healthcare authorization processes, policies, and procedural updates.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, standards, and regulations.
