Job Description

We are seeking a Necropsy / Histology Technician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in laboratory operations, animal handling, and histology support and a proven ability to deliver accurate data, maintain compliant lab environments, and support necropsy workflows with precision.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, provide in-procedure support to prosectors, and clean up after necropsies.
  • Perform necropsy and histology lab support tasks including changing solutions, printing slides and cassettes, operating staining equipment, weighing tissues, and preparing specimens for shipment.
  • Euthanize laboratory animals in accordance with humane care standards.
  • Record animal data such as weights and physical characteristics per laboratory standards.
  • Record facility and equipment measurements, including weights and temperatures, to support data integrity.
  • Contribute to timely and accurate production of histological slides; may include embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping based on workload and performance.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain facilities and equipment per SOPs.
  • Order, receive, decontaminate, and store consumables; stock cabinets to sustain lab efficiency.
  • Prepare reagents and solutions; manage biological and chemical waste per procedure.
  • Adhere to EPA regulations, protocols, SOPs, and Good Laboratory Practices.

After approximately 5-6 months, based on training schedule and performance:

  • Role may transition into a necropsy/histology technician position performing routine and special rodent necropsies and histology procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Animal Science or Biology. High school diploma plus 5 years relevant experience considered. Master's candidates considered overqualified. Associate degree not qualified.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and operate in a regulated environment.
  • Team collaboration, professional communication, and timely task completion.
  • Basic chemistry, biology, mathematics, and computer skills; ability to learn validated systems.
  • Willingness to handle laboratory animals and perform humane euthanasia after training.

Preferred Skills:

  • Rodent handling and restraint experience.
  • Academic laboratory experience for recent graduates.

Role Logistics

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Interview: Onsite with facility tour. Resume review required.
  • Onsite only. Non-local or remote candidates will not be considered.
  • PPE provided for necropsy and histology labs.
  • No medical surveillance testing required. Potential exposure to latex, animal dander, and urine.
  • Driving not required.
  • Initial focus will be lab support for necropsy and histology groups with planned transition to Prosector group after approximately 5-6 months based on training availability.
