Position Title: Dental Assistant 1

Location: Cleveland, OH 44106

Expected Duration: 3 months

Job Type: [FULL TIME (>%3D30 HRS WEEKLY)], [CONTRACT], [REMOTE]

Shift: M-F 8.30 to 5.00 EST

Pay Range: $18.44 /hourly on W2

  • Strong interpersonal skills for face-to-face interactions with colleagues, supervisors, and patients

  • Job Description:

    POSITION OBJECTIVE
    Under general supervision, the Dental Assistant 1 will provide clinical and administrative support to residents and faculty within the Periodontal Department at the School of Dental Medicine. This role primarily involves surgical assistance and managing instruments, supplies, and equipment essential for high-quality patient care.



    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Prepare and provide sterilized instruments and equipment to residents. (25%)
  • Provide chair-side assistance to faculty, residents, and hygienists (when residents are in class). (15%)
  • Dispense dental supplies, instruments, and equipment to ensure efficient and timely patient treatment. (15%)
  • Monitor inventory levels of dental and office supplies; prepare requisitions and obtain necessary approvals for reordering. (6%)
  • Prepare the clinic for daily operations, including cleaning cubicles, stocking supplies, and refreshing sterile water in each unit. (10%)



  • NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Verify patient payment for procedures and specialty items (e.g., implants, bone grafts). (5%)
  • Track and follow up on insurance pre-treatment estimates. (5%)
  • Inspect equipment for functionality and coordinate repairs as needed. (5%)
  • Review patient records and forms for completion; report deficiencies to faculty and residents. (5%)
  • Assist in managing the clinic schedule to ensure timely and efficient patient flow. (2%)
  • Take dental radiographs. (2%)
  • Record and track medical, lab, and pathology reports in patient files. (2%)
  • Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for departmental materials. (1%)
  • Maintain emergency equipment and assist with resuscitation when necessary. (1%)
  • Orient new residents on clinic protocols and sterilization procedures. (1%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned. (<1%)



  • CONTACTS

    • Department: Daily contact with cashiers, dispensary staff, receptionists, insurance personnel, specialty clinics, and clinical instructors. Regular interaction with department chair and clinic director.
    • University: Rare to no contact.
    • External: Frequent interaction with patients to provide assistance and information.
    • Students: Continuous support and guidance for graduate and post-graduate residents.


    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience: Minimum of 3 months of dental assisting experience required.
    • Education/Licensing:
      • High school diploma or equivalent required.
      • Certified Dental Assistant designation.
      • Current State of Ohio Radiology Certification.
      • Annual CPR certification.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    This position operates in a clinical environment, with regular exposure to biohazards, sharps, and chemicals. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, and safety glasses is required. There is a minimal but potential risk of explosion when oxygen and explosive anesthetics are present. Emergency response and stress management are occasionally necessary, particularly during sedation procedures or critical patient events.
