Energy Program Manager VBCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Energy Program Manager V for a REMOTE opportunity. Position Title: Energy Program Manager VLocation: US Remote (Anywhere in the US)Anticipated Start Date: 6/10/2025Please note this is the target date and it is subject to change. BCforward will send official notice ahead of a confirmed start date.Expected Duration: 08 Months Job Type: Contract - [FULL TIME (40 Hours a week)]Pay Range: $80.73/hr-$85.48/hrPlease note that actual compensation may vary within this range due to factors such as location, experience, and job responsibilities, and does not encompass additional non-standard compensation (e.g., benefits, paid time off, per diem, etc.). Position OverviewThe Energy Manager (Clean Energy Standards) will lead efforts to refine and implement a Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting framework that better reflects the real emissions impact of clean energy projects, driving meaningful carbon reductions. This role will collaborate closely with internal Energy & Net Zero teams and engage with external partners to advance clean energy and net zero strategies, with a focus on shaping industry standards and building influential partnerships. Key Responsibilities
- Engage and actively shape the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) Scope 2 update process through both public and private channels.
- Lead campaigns and coordinate with NGOs, corporations, and trade groups to facilitate and activate their engagement with GHGP.
- Develop and disseminate messaging and publications to advance public education and enablement around GHGP.
- Support the Emissions First strategy and related workstreams.
- Lead the organization's response to the GHGP public comment period.
- Lay the groundwork for the development and recognition of a Scope 2 Impact/Consequential Metric by standard-setting bodies.
- Partner with the Net Zero team to contribute clean energy guidance to revisions of key standards (e.g., SBTi, ISO Net Zero, AIM).
- Analyze existing and proposed Scope 2 GHG accounting and voluntary corporate claim standards to assess impacts on renewable energy and emissions reduction goals.
- Model and measure the effects of standards implementation on the organization's global portfolio and reporting.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external academics, standard setters, data providers, and industry leaders.
- Educate internal teams on technical Scope 2 GHG accounting proposals and ensure smooth implementation of evolving standards.
- Advocate for more transparent and granular data from electricity suppliers, market operators, and utilities regarding carbon intensity.
- Bachelor's degree in business, sustainability, corporate responsibility, or a technically related field.
- 10+ years of experience in clean energy, environmental standards, carbon markets, and/or sustainability.
- Deep expertise in clean energy markets, project-based accounting, GHG accounting, and voluntary corporate climate claims.
- Experience in a coordinating or leadership role building sustainability partnerships and coalitions with NGOs and corporations.
- Demonstrated ability to influence, create, and drive strategic impact, engagement, and communication.
- Flexible, entrepreneurial mindset with experience influencing across an organization with indirect authority.
- Strong project management skills, with experience managing multiple projects and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to diplomatically resolve issues, align conflicting inputs, and propose actionable solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience working with GHG standard and guidance development.
- Strong familiarity with existing and emerging corporate climate disclosure regulations.
- Experience setting and reporting on corporate GHG reduction targets and commitments (e.g., Net Zero, SBTi).
- Intimate familiarity with Scope 2 GHG accounting, including inventory vs. consequential accounting.
- Proven leadership in building sustainability partnerships with NGOs and corporations.
- Self-starter with outstanding communication skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience in GHG standard and guidance development.
- Experience setting and reporting on corporate GHG reduction targets and commitments.
- Strong knowledge of corporate climate disclosure regulations.
