Systems Engineer BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer for a Position in Minneapolis, MN Position Title: Systems Engineer Location: Minneapolis, MN Anticipated Start Date: [07/10/2025]Please note this is the target date and it is subject to change. BCforward will send official notice ahead of a confirmed start date. Expected Contract Duration: (9+ Months) Job Type: Contract Pay Range: $40- $45/hr. Please note that actual compensation may vary within this range due to factors such as location, experience, and job responsibilities, and does not encompass additional non-standard compensation (e.g., benefits, paid time off, per diem, etc.). [JOB DESCRIPTION]A long-term client of ours is looking for a 9+ month contract IT Systems Engineer/Administrator. * Assist in building and maintaining IT infrastructure systems, including servers, storage, virtualization, and backups.* Support the implementation of infrastructure solutions that align with business requirements and security standards.* Perform routine maintenance tasks such as patching, upgrading systems, and managing backups.* Monitor system performance, identify issues, and collaborate with team members to resolve them.* Ensure compliance with security policies and assist in maintaining adherence to standards like ISO27001:2022, GDPR, or HIPAA.* Participate in disaster recovery planning, backup strategies, and testing to ensure business continuity.* Configure and manage monitoring systems.* Use monitoring tools to check system health and log performance data, reporting findings to the team.* Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, escalating complex problems as needed.* Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., PowerShell) to automate repetitive tasks and improve system efficiency.* Provide technical support for corporate systems, including SQL Server, Office 365, Active Directory, Entra, and backup systems (Veeam and Cohesity).* Collaborate with vendors for problem resolution.* Create and maintain accurate documentation for infrastructure configurations, maintenance procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).* Assist in formal change control processes and update project documentation as needed.* Work with the IT department to meet customer expectations for schedules, budgets, and service quality.* Other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Technical Competencies* Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.* 2-5 years of experience in IT support or systems administration, with exposure to server management, storage systems, backups, and cloud technologies.* Certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner are a plus.* Experience in regulated industries (e.g., medical devices with CFR Part 820 or CFR Part 11 compliance) or laboratory systems is a plus but not required. Basic understanding of network concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) and network security practices.* Familiarity with operating systems such as Windows Server and Linux.* Experience with virtualization platforms like VMware vSphere or Nutanix AHV* Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and basic deployment of applications in IaaS, PaaS, or SaaS environments.* Introductory scripting skills in PowerShell or Python for task automation.* Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN, NAS, RAID, iSCSI, NFS, SMB).* Understanding of backup solutions and disaster recovery processes.* Ability to use monitoring tools for system health and performance.* Experience with directory services like Active Directory or Azure Entra and basic identity management.* Knowledge of patch management and system update processes to mitigate vulnerabilities.* Ability to create and maintain basic technical documentation and operational runbooks.* Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues with guidance.* Effective written and verbal communication for documenting processes and collaborating with team members.* Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments.* Adaptability to learn new technologies and methodologies.* Time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.* Customer-focused mindset with empathy and positive interaction with colleagues and stakeholders.* Commitment to continuous learning in IT infrastructure trends and tools.
