BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Software Development Engineer 5 for remote opportunity.

Position Title: Software Development Engineer 5

Location: Remote

Job Type: CONTRACT

Pay Range: $83/hr on W2

Summary:

The Senior Ruby on Rails Contractor role requires the ability to move fast, own projects end-to-end, and deliver production-ready features with minimal oversight. Work spans a modern stack-Ruby on Rails, React, TypeScript, and MySQL-to ship features that make a real difference.

This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in an environment where progress is achieved through iteration and initiative, not waiting for perfect specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services in Ruby on Rails. Develop and enhance front-end features using React and TypeScript. Write efficient, maintainable SQL for MySQL databases.

Take ownership of projects from concept to production. Debug, optimize, and ship code quickly with attention to quality. Collaborate directly with product and design teams to define technical solutions.

Ensure code quality through thoughtful reviews and testing.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 10 years of professional experience with web development.
• 5+ years of backend web engineering experience with a framework that isn't ruby on rails
• 5+ years of experience with React
• Strong knowledge of Ruby on Rails, React, and TypeScript.
• Deep understanding of MySQL schema design and performance tuning.
• Proven ability to work independently and deliver results quickly.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working in a remote, async-first, and fast-moving environment.

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required.
