Job Description
We are seeking a Capture System Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in multi-camera capture systems, depth sensors, IMUs, and joint hardware/software integration and a proven ability to build, operate, and scale state-of-the-art capture systems that enable high-volume, high-throughput data collection for AI research.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct data capture sessions, annotations, processing, and QA using commercial and proprietary tools.
- Support and maintain capture labs, ensuring readiness and uptime.
- Assemble, debug, and verify capture systems per defined needs by collaborating with hardware engineers, motion capture vendors, and internal teams.
- Test end-to-end capture pipelines for accuracy and correctness. Isolate errors to specific components.
- Monitor systems and infrastructure. Provide technical feedback on quality, stability, and output.
- Provide milestones and timelines. Communicate progress to project stakeholders.
- Identify and escalate blockers. Partner with researchers and lab managers to resolve issues.
- Produce technical documentation for capture systems and operational procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency with Linux and Windows, including command line usage.
- Experience in a production capture environment.
- Hands-on experience setting up and maintaining multi-camera systems, depth sensors, and IMUs in unified capture workflows.
- Ability to debug, profile, and troubleshoot software and hardware issues.
- Background in applied research and/or product development with joint hardware/software integration.
- Resourceful problem-solving and initiative in hands-on environments.
- Curiosity and ability to learn and apply experimental technologies.
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Research, Product Design, and external partners.
Preferred Skills:
- 5+ years of experience with capture systems.
- Background in production capture operations.
- Experience with distributed systems and cloud services.
- Proficiency or familiarity with scripting and automation, including Python and shell (bash, zsh).
- Knowledge of multi-camera systems and open-source software.
- Experience in fault or failure mode analysis.
- Understanding of camera synchronization (e.g., timecode, genlock) and real-time systems.
- Experience taking systems from concept to deployment.
- Experience with 3D printers and rapid prototyping.
