Job Description
We are seeking a Material Handler to join our team. The candidate will support materials operations, ensure compliance with GMP/GLP/DOT/HazMat requirements, and maintain safe, accurate, and timely receiving, storage, and distribution activities. The role will facilitate daily operational tasks, troubleshoot issues, and serve as a liaison between Materials Specialists and Supervisors to meet service and quality goals.
Responsibilities:
- Receive incoming materials, verify paperwork and condition, and prepare receiving documents.
- Prepare hazardous material manifests and route receiving information; perform x-ray scanning and process radioactive materials per procedure.
- Apply asset tags to capital equipment and observe handling, storage, and temperature requirements.
- Provide internal distribution, including GMP materials, and apply proper placards for transport.
- Pack materials for shipment, prepare shipping documents, and perform campus pick-ups for outgoing shipments.
- Independently follow and train others on GMP procedures and maintain accurate GMP documentation.
- Adhere to safety procedures, use safety equipment, and support safety awareness and training.
- Provide routine updates to Supervisors on progress, status, and issues; execute directives effectively.
- Prioritize and distribute group workload with minimal supervision and monitor daily operations.
- Participate in projects and deliver presentations to diverse audiences as needed.
- Identify and help implement workflow improvements and change initiatives, including LEAN, 5S, and Class A activities.
- Lead resolution efforts for technical issues and act as a resource to the team.
- Support departmental goal setting and continuous feedback with supervisors regarding performance and development.
- Communicate clearly in verbal and written formats; address customer inquiries and requests promptly.
- Maintain equipment and work areas for cleanliness and ensure documentation accuracy and completion.
- Operate material handling equipment and relevant computer applications with proficiency.
- Perform operations with precision to avoid variances; complete assigned and backup tasks on time.
- Assist Materials Specialists and contingent workers; provide coverage across groups as needed.
- Adapt to schedule changes, work overtime as necessary, and ensure all work is completed by end of day.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Material handling and warehouse experience.
- Knowledge of GMP, GLP, DOT, and HazMat practices; ability to follow and document GMP procedures.
- Effective time management, organization, and problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication and customer service skills; ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Proficiency with material handling equipment and relevant computer applications.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods; reliability and strong attendance.
- Valid driver's license; California license required for local operations.
- Willingness to work fully onsite with morning shift start times that may vary based on business needs.
Preferred Skills:
- Forklift experience.
- HazMat endorsement on driver's license.
- Knowledge of safe chemical handling.
- Prior leadership responsibilities or team lead experience.
Additional Details:
- This is a fully onsite role with daily commute required.
- Interview process: phone screen 15-20 minutes, followed by a virtual interview 1-2 hours.
