Job Description

We are seeking a Greenhouse Technician to join our dynamic Controlled Environments team supporting research operations at a four-acre facility in Johnston, Iowa. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in greenhouse operations, plant care, and controlled pollination and a proven ability to execute daily greenhouse tasks safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Shoot bag in corn pollination rooms daily.
• Tassel bag and pollinate corn 1-2 times per week.
• Prepare and sort plant groupings with attention to detail.
• Transfer large plants on carts to designated rooms and specific locations.
• Perform routine greenhouse sanitation, including discarding regulated material.
• Assist with plant care tasks such as cotton pruning.
• Drive the tug to move plants throughout the facility.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive company vehicles such as a tug.
• Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn internal research software.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks, stand or sit for extended periods, and lift at least 30 lbs.
• Comfort working in warm, humid greenhouse conditions with year-round pollen exposure.
• Strong communication, self-motivation, positive attitude, and attention to detail. Able to work independently and in groups.

Preferred Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, plant sciences, or related field.
• Two or more years of relevant greenhouse or research experience.

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
• Work 1-2 weekends or holidays every 3 months, with compensatory days.
• Driving required: occasional.
