Job Description

We are seeking a Principal Medical Expert to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in occupational medicine, medical policy compliance, and utilization review, and a proven ability to develop and implement division-wide medical programs and decisions that align with regulatory standards and organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical expertise in occupational medicine across two or more divisions, ensuring accurate diagnoses and adherence to protocol.
  • Evaluate, interpret, recommend, and implement policies and procedures for medical surveillance, certification, emergency response, workers' compensation, and health promotion.
  • Review and incorporate health and medical surveillance standards in alignment with OSHA and other regulatory bodies; ensure company safety standards meet guidelines.
  • Prepare periodic reports on unit activities and progress toward goals; provide input to multidisciplinary programs across divisions.
  • Recommend new or alternative approaches to meet evolving medical needs and improve program effectiveness.
  • Maintain and control budgets related to occupational medicine; recommend equipment, training, and instruments as needed.
  • Select, hire, train, and evaluate staff; address performance, recommend personnel actions, and manage rewards within guidelines and budgets.
  • Prepare and recommend operating and personnel budgets; monitor spend and recommend variances as necessary.
  • Conduct electronic prior authorization reviews to determine medical necessity; participate in peer-to-peer reviews and Fair Hearings when required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • MD or DO with an unrestricted license to practice in the United States; must be physically located in the US.
  • 12+ years of medical experience, including occupational medicine domains and utilization review or comparable policy-based decisioning.
  • Demonstrated experience with OSHA and compliance-related policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws.
  • Experience with occupational medicine practices, medical surveillance, emergency response, and workers' compensation.
  • Budget management experience; familiarity with GAAP and accounting software.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Leadership ability to mentor teams and handle confidential information appropriately.

Preferred Skills:

  • Board certification in a relevant specialty.
  • Experience leading multi-division health and environmental initiatives.
