Job Title: CPD&D Laboratory AssistantLocation: [Indianapolis, IN 46268] (On-site only)
Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM + 2 hours one Saturday/month
Pay Rate: $19.00-$20.00/hr
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: 12 months (with potential annual extensions based on performance)
Position Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support the CPD&D team in a lab and greenhouse setting. You'll assist with daily lab operations, including media preparation, inoculation, chemical handling, and general lab maintenance. The ideal candidate will have strong aseptic technique, a background in Biology or Plant Pathology, and a proactive mindset for learning and teamwork. Key Responsibilities: Media Preparation:

- Prepare media and solutions for research.
- Clean and autoclave lab equipment.
- Set up glassware, tubes, and bottles for lab use.
- Assist with preparing and tagging plants for experiments.
- Support inoculation and harvesting processes.
- Move and track plant materials for testing.
- Safely apply fungicides and lab chemicals following strict protocols.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including PAPR respirators.
- Manage proper storage, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Sanitize lab spaces, benches, growth rooms, and greenhouses.
- Wash carts, cut flats, bag and weigh plant materials.
- Maintain supply levels in labs and workspaces.
- Experience with aseptic technique (essential).
- Ability to wear PPE including PAPR respirators (medical evaluation required).
- Willingness to work in environments with exposure to chemicals and latex.
- Strong attendance, reliability, and motivation to learn.
- Degree in Biology or Plant Pathology OR 1-2 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of plant science and fungal culture handling.
- Familiarity with sterile techniques and lab safety practices.
- This is a direct contract opportunity (not temp-to-hire).
- Medical surveillance (OSHA Respirator Evaluation) is required.
