BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Usability Researcher remote opportunity.

Pay Range: $48/hr to $50/hr on W2

Typical Day in the Role

Purpose of the Team: The team focuses on digital product development and research, requiring candidates with experience in making digital products. The team also supports remote work and collaborates with external vendors and suppliers for staffing and project needs.

Candidate Requirements

Disqualifiers:

  • No experience in digital product making.
  • Inability to commit to an 18-month contract (preferred for continuity)
Best vs. Average:

  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Project management experience or skills in research planning.
  • Proactive communication and self-management, especially in a busy team environment.
  • Candidates should have experience in digital product making.

Role

  • In this role, you will be part of the team responsible for M365 Outlook Calendar user experience research, specifically for Copilot/AI features.
  • You will execute impactful research to better understand our customer's needs and experiences and uncover deep customer insights needed to influence product decisions.
  • You will derive insights from quantitative and qualitative data, synthesizing in partnership with other researchers.
  • You will play a role in making M365 web products easier to use for people around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and executing remote usability studies (unmoderated and moderated)
  • Analyzing and synthesizing data into reports, video compilations and issue tracking. Sensemaking across data sources, prioritizing issues, and tracking impact of research.

Skills and Experience (required)

  • Strong project management, organization, and planning skills with an attention to detail.
  • Skilled at coordination and collaboration, naturally curious and an eager problem solver.
  • At least 2 years of UX researcher experience, or 1 year in UX research with 2+ years in related product making roles (design, data science, or project management).
  • Industry experience effectively partnering with teams to improve the user experience based on research results or customer feedback.
  • Experience writing surveys and analyzing simple quantitative data.
  • Experience with qualitative research methods and insight synthesis.
  • A degree in a Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology, or other data- or research-centric field.

Skills and Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience with online research tools and video editing. Experience with UserTesting.com is strongly desirable.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill with qualitative usability methods, including observing, understanding, and synthesizing human behavior into insights, and driving the voice of the customer in product development.
  • Basic understanding of LLM-based AI tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT or Gemini. Bonus: experience with AI tools for research synthesis (e.g. Copilot, Marvin).

Top 3 hard skills:

  • 2+ years of experience working with digital products
  • 2+ years of research planning and/or project management skills
  • 2+ years of experience running in depth qualitative interviews
