Pay Rate $22.50/hr.

Job Title: Greenhouse Technician
Description:
We are seeking a responsible and highly motivated individual to join our Controlled Environments Team as a Greenhouse Technician (Weekend Shifted).
In this role, you will contribute to growing what's next - helping to build the future of agriculture through innovation, technology, and a people-first approach.
This position is based at our Johnston, Iowa research facility and will primarily assist with the preparation and execution of routine greenhouse activities, including seeding, pollinating, transplanting, watering, harvesting, tissue sampling, data collection and handling, and general greenhouse maintenance.
You will help ensure a professional, clean, and safe work environment while adhering to all compliance and safety standards.
We are looking for candidates who take initiative, enjoy learning, work hard, and demonstrate a stable work history.
The facility spans 4 acres, requires extensive walking, and operates as a smoke-free campus where chemicals are used in daily operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform daily plant care activities, including seeding, pollination, transplanting, watering, harvesting, and seed management for crops such as corn, soybean, wheat, canola, and other varieties.
  
• Collect and prepare small plant tissue samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring accurate sample identification and proper storage for large volumes of specimens.
  
• Support experimental procedures, assist in data collection, and maintain detailed and accurate records.
  
• Perform routine greenhouse sanitation tasks, including the safe disposal of regulated materials and destruction of waste in compliance with safety protocols.

Job Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or GED required.
  A bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, entomology, or a related plant science discipline is preferred but not mandatory.
  Alternatively, two or more years of relevant experience or equivalent education will be considered.
  
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety/ergonomic guidelines.
  
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, a positive attitude, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  
• Basic computer proficiency, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and the ability to learn proprietary research software.
  
• Physical capability to stand or sit for extended periods, lift up to 30 lbs., and perform repetitive tasks in a warm, humid greenhouse environment with year-round exposure to pollen.
  
• Ability to safely work around common chemicals as required.

Shifted schedule: Wednesday to Sunday or Saturday to Wednesday
