BCforward is currently seeking highly motivated Power BI Engineer in Canada, Remote!

Position Title: Power BI Engineer

Location: Remote

Anticipated Start Date:

Expected Duration:
6+ Months Contract with possibilities for extension

Job Type: Contract:
40hr/ week

Pay Range:
$55/hr to 56/hr on W2

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with a strong focus on Power BI development and reporting. The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports, with a strong foundation in SQL Server for data management and transformation. You will play a pivotal role in delivering actionable insights and impactful visualizations to support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that provide key business insights and metrics.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into data models and visualizations in Power BI.
  • Optimize and enhance existing Power BI reports, ensuring they are efficient, user-friendly, and scalable.
  • Work with SQL Server to query, transform, and manage data for use in Power BI reporting, ensuring data integrity and performance.
  • Develop complex data models in Power BI, utilizing DAX and Power Query to meet specific reporting needs.
  • Monitor and improve the performance of Power BI reports and dashboards, ensuring fast load times and accurate data.
  • Ensure data quality by performing regular audits, resolving data discrepancies, and enhancing data validation processes.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on Power BI reports and dashboards to ensure they can fully leverage the tools.
  • Participate in the full report lifecycle, from requirements gathering to report deployment and maintenance.
  • Implement and maintain security measures for Power BI, ensuring that reports are accessible only to authorized users.
  • Create detailed documentation for developed Power BI reports, data models, and transformation processes.

Core Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in Power BI development and report creation.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server, including writing complex SQL queries and working with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including report design, data modeling, DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service.
  • Expertise in building and optimizing Power BI reports, dashboards, and KPIs that provide actionable business insights.
  • Ability to transform raw data into meaningful visualizations that effectively communicate key business metrics.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and experience working with large datasets.
  • Experience with data integration and preparing data for reporting purposes, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices and report access controls within Power BI.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on data integrity and performance optimization.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to meet reporting needs.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple reporting projects effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience with Power BI Service, including sharing, publishing, and managing reports and dashboards.
  • Familiarity with advanced analytics and forecasting within Power BI is a plus.
  • Experience with other data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik) is a bonus.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and Agile methodologies is desirable.
